Kerb appeal is everything when selling your home. Not only will your house look so much better, but getting your outdoor space into shape could result in a quicker sale and even add thousands onto the asking price. A well looked after outdoor space can add as much as 20% to a property’s overall value, so it's an investment well worth making.

Here are 8 ideas and steps you can take to achieve this transformation:

1. Clear and Clean

Start by removing any weeds, debris, or overgrown plants from the garden. Tidy unruly shrubs and rake away any leaves or dead plants. This will give you a clean canvas to work with.

2. Define the entrance:

Create a clear pathway up to your front door. Pavers through planting, a paved or even gravel path bordered by attractive planting will guide visitors to the entrance and make your garden feel more welcoming.

3. Refresh your planting:

Transform any tired-looking flower beds and borders with new planting. Consider seasonal planting, evergreen shrubs to provide structure and interest even in the winter months. 4. Create a Focal Point:

Install a focal point that draws attention and adds interest to your garden. This could be a small water feature like a birdbath or a water bowl, a sculpture, or a bench surrounded by planting.

5. Add seating:

If you have the space, consider adding a small seating area and stage to enjoy the garden. This could be a simple bench, small bistro seating, or even a swing seat.

6. Lighting:

Add some warm soft outdoor lighting to illuminate your garden in the evenings and create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Use pathway lights, accent lights to highlight trees or features.

7. Refresh pots and containers:

A few well-chosen pots and window boxes of coordinated seasonal planting is a sure-fire way to give your garden a quick facelift. Plus you get the added bonus of taking them with you when you move! Symmetry always works well to give an organised and modern look. Cleverly placed pots can also fill spaces in a border. Take note of the views from your house and put your pots where buyers will see them.

8. Keep at it!

To keep your front garden looking welcoming and inviting, make sure you maintain it regularly. Water your plants as needed, deadhead and prune when needed, and keep on top of the weeding. Regular maintenance will ensure that your garden stays vibrant and appealing.

With these steps, you'll be well on your way to creating a perfect space at the front of your house to welcome both you and your potential buyers.
