Now is the perfect time to refresh and replant your pots and containers for autumn and winter.

In this video, I show how you can use your pots and containers to inject autumn and winter colour into the garden when everything else is starting to fade.

I really love the cyclamen, heuchera, ferns, ornamental cabbages (love them or hate them), Stachys byzantina (lambs ear) and all the autumnal and wintery plants you can get at the mo to refresh your pots.

And you don't have to replace everything, there may be plants you can reuse and also plants you can pot up and reuse next year. My window boxes were looking decidedly faded and it was definitely time for a refresh. I've reused some trailing ivy and a fern in the refreshed window box and potted up some trailing geraniums in the hope that I can reuse them next summer. By adding in Juncus spiralis (corkscrew grass ), ornamental cabbages and cyclamen, they are now looking ready and regenerated to take us through autumn and into winter.

Keep them watered throughout autumn and winter because, believe it or not, pots and containers can quickly dry out even in the colder months.
